We Are Moving Offices

By: Company News, News

Baxter Fensham has finally exchanged on The Grove Manse in Horsforth. This wonderful property in the heart of the community, was built circa 260 years ago and is to be our new head office. It will also provide us with the space we require to facilitate our future expansion. Extensive work is now underway to modernise it for contemporary office use, yet balanced with a keen eye to retain the character and its evolution through the ages, as is befitting its Grade II listed status. The works are scheduled to be completed in time for our planned move expected to be between the 26th and 28th of April.

A little more about the property and its History.

It was built by a wealthy merchantman for his daughter, her child and servants, following the breakdown of her marriage. Back the 18th century much shame was attached to such an event, so this property was built in what was then a largely rural area some 4 miles from the city. It is here that his daughter lived for the remainder of her life away from the public eye.

Some 100 years ago the Methodist Church acquired the property and built a church in the grounds. The original house then became The Manse for the minister. As the minister is now responsible for several churches and lives off site, the property is no longer of use to the church. As it is surrounded by commercial properties it was not deemed appropriate for it to remain a residential property and was granted change of use by the planning authority.
